MEET THE TEAM

FOUNDER, GEORGE CONDOUS

Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology

George Condous is the Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Sydney Medical School, Nepean, University of Sydney and a specialist in Gynaecological Ultrasound and Advanced Endosurgery. He set up the first and only Acute Gynaecology Unit in Australia which utilises ultrasound at the first point of contact for women with emergency gynaecological and early pregnancy complications (miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy). He is also responsible for the One-Stop Ultrasound based diagnostic clinics; which review women with abnormal uterine bleeding, chronic pelvic pain (endometriosis), adnexal pathology (ovarian cysts) and post-menopausal bleeding.

Lisa Feldman

Sonographer

Feldman received her Post-Graduate Diploma of Medical Sonography from the University of Sydney. With over 10 years of experience as a general sonographer, she specializes in Obstetric and Gynaecological scanning.

Gillian Profaca

Chief Sonographer

Gillian grew up in a small town in country Victoria after moving to Melbourne she studied radiography and eventually ultrasound. She worked in both public and private practices in Melbourne, before heading to Sydney with her family where she continued to work in both Private Hospitals and private practice. She now has over 20 years of experience and has continued to enjoy all aspect of ultrasound particularly those focusing on women’s health.

Dr Cansu Uzuner

Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Dr Cansu (Su) Uzuner (MBBS, FRANZCOG) is an Australian-trained Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, practising at Nepean Hospital and OMNI Ultrasound for Women. She completed her core training at Royal North Shore Hospital and a Fellowship in Gynaecological Ultrasound and Laparoscopic Surgery with a focus on endometriosis.

Dr Uzuner co-leads the Early Pregnancy and Acute Gynaecology Service at Nepean Hospital and has a special interest in endometriosis, ultrasound and minimally invasive gynaecological surgery. She is also a clinical lecturer at the University of Sydney, actively contributing to research.

Fluent in English and Turkish, she also speaks conversational Korean.

Dr Mercedes Espada

Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Dr Mercedes Espada is a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with appointments at Nepean and Sydney Adventist Hospitals. She completed a Fellowship in endometriosis imaging and surgery under A/Prof George Condous and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (FRANZCOG) in February 2020.

Passionate about endometriosis diagnosis and management, and with expertise in minimally invasive surgery and sonology, Dr Espada has a PhD and has received multiple awards in Spain, Australia, and the USA. She has held Visiting Fellowships in Italy and the USA and has numerous publications, including validating the ultrasound-based endometriosis staging system (UBESS). In 2020, she was recognised by the Australian Government under the Global Talent Program and is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney.

Mercedes speaks Spanish and English.

OMNI Ultrasound & Gynaecological Care

Condous performs Advanced Endosurgery procedures for women needing intervention for pelvic masses, adnexal pathology, severe endometriosis or hysterectomy. He also runs ‘Hands on’ Live Sheep Laparoscopic Workshops for gynaecologists at Camden Veterinarian School.
Having completed an undergraduate degree with the University of Adelaide, he left Australia in 1993 and moved to London where he completed his training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. From 2001 to 2003 Condous worked as a Senior Research Fellow at St George’s Hospital, London. At St George’s he set up the Acute Gynaecology Unit, the first in the United Kingdom. It was also during this time that he developed an interest in Early Pregnancy and especially the management of pregnancies of unknown location (PULs). Condous has developed many mathematical models for the prediction of outcome of PULs which have been featured in numerous peer review journals. In 2005, he returned to Australia where he completed his Laparoscopic Fellowship at the Centre for Advanced Reproductive Endosurgery, Royal North Shore, Sydney.

Condous was appointed as a Consultant Gynaecologist and Senior Lecturer at Nepean Hospital in 2006 and soon was made Associate Professor. In 2010, he was made Departmental Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Nepean Hospital. He obtained the MRCOG in 1999 and was made FRANZCOG in 2005. In 2009, he was awarded his Doctorate in Medicine (MD), University of London, for his thesis entitled: “The management of pregnancies of unknown location and the development of new mathematical models to predict outcome”.

Condous has edited three books including the “Handbook of Early Pregnancy Care”, published over 100 papers in international journals and is internationally renowned for his work in Early Pregnancy. He is the Associate Editor for Gynaecologic Obstetric Investigation, which is a European based journal, as well as the Australasian Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine (AJUM). He is on the organising committee and is an invited speaker at the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ISUOG) Scientific meeting in Sydney 2013. His current research interests relate to the management of ectopic pregnancy, 1st trimester growth, PULs and miscarriage and the use of transvaginal ultrasound (in particular sonovaginography, to predict posterior compartment deep infiltrating rectovaginal endometriosis).Condous is also actively involved with post-graduate education including the annual running of the Early Pregnancy and Gynaecological Ultrasound Interactive Courses for Sonologists, Radiologists, Sonographers and Gynaecologists in Australia.
